Photographing Farm Food in Arizona- Learning Food Photography
Food photography is so peaceful and relaxing. A few days ago I hosted a free farm food shoot-out for locals, and after ten minutes of no speaking, one of the attendees looked up and said "Everyone is so quiet!". It was true. We were all working with different food, getting our own style to shine in our pictures, not talking...and not even minding. We reveled in the relaxation, as most of us left kids at home to come get so quiet alone/creative time. It was wonderful. 2016 is shaping up to be a monumental food year for me. I am so excited about some upcoming ventures I have in the food photography world. Teaching bloggers and business owners over these past few years all about capturing details in their images, particularly food images, has led to some great opportunities in 2016.
One of the biggest jobs I have been hired for is under wraps for now, but it will have me traveling at some point in the near future, and I am pretty excited about that. Unrelated to that job, I will be traveling to the Napa area next month to explore some wineries and celebrate my birthday. I expect to visit the San Francisco farmers market again, since I loved it so much last time. I also intend on networking with some area businesses that find themselves needing help with their small business photography.
Another "big news item" is that I am being featured in the July/August issue of Click Magazine again. You'll have to wait a little longer to see what my article is all about. I can say it is the most excited magazine feature I have had yet, and it is all about local food.
For now I wanted to share what went down at the free shoot-out. I put the call out in a few groups, and luckily 5 ladies got to come shoot various farm food with me! We used each other has hand-models, moved the food where we wanted it to be and played with the light for an hour. It was a lot of fun, and it was nice to meet other photographers I didn't know.
I love how the community of bloggers and photographers in Arizona are very social and supportive. My stock photography workshop is coming up in July, and I feel at ease already recognizing some of the names of those coming. What fun it will be!
